Avon Gardens Weddings: A Videographer’s Guide to Avon Gardens Venue

Some venues give you a nice backdrop. Avon Gardens gives you an entire film set. Tucked into Avon on the west side of Indianapolis, this garden venue has been part of couples' love stories for more than 20 years, and it's easy to see why. As a wedding videographer and photographer serving Central Indiana, we think it's one of the most cinematic places a couple can say "I do." Here's what makes it special, what we love to capture there, and a few tips to help you plan.

About Avon Gardens

Avon Gardens is a four-acre outdoor garden venue that hosts everything from intimate elopements to full ceremonies and receptions for up to 250 guests. The grounds are filled with flower gardens, ponds, waterfalls and paver walkways, and the venue is known for being flexible with the vendors couples choose. Wedding party suites give everyone a place to get ready on site, and a venue coordinator helps couples through the planning process.

Why Avon Gardens Is a Videographer's Dream

Two ceremony looks in one venue. Couples can exchange vows under the garden's tree for a natural, organic feel, or under a cedar arbor decorated in their wedding colors. Both frame a ceremony beautifully on camera.

Movement built into the landscape. Paver walkways carry guests across ponds and past waterfalls on the way to the reception. That walk is one of our favorite shots: moving water, blooming flowers and your guests strolling through it all.

Light for every time of day. The sunny gardens burst with color all season, while the ravine and waterfall gardens offer cool, shaded spots. That variety means we can find flattering, soft light for portraits even in the middle of a bright summer afternoon.

Pure magic after dark. Once the sun goes down, more than 300 candles and festive lighting glow throughout the gardens. Candlelit first dances and sparkling reception shots are where Avon Gardens truly shines on film.

Moments We Love to Capture at Avon Gardens

  • Getting ready in the wedding party suites, with nervous laughs, final touches and letters exchanged

  • The processional down a garden aisle surrounded by flowers

  • Golden hour portraits by the ponds and waterfalls

  • The grand entrance and first dance under candlelight and string lights

  • Guests celebrating in the reception area surrounded by flower gardens

Crystal-Clear Audio for Outdoor Vows

Outdoor ceremonies are gorgeous, but breezes and the sound of waterfalls can easily drown out vows on a single camera microphone. Because we provide full audio services along with video and photography, we capture your ceremony with dedicated microphones on the key people and backup recorders, so every word of your vows comes through clearly in your film.

Planning Tips for an Avon Gardens Wedding

  1. Build your timeline around sunset. Schedule portraits for golden hour and save the first dance for when the candles are glowing. You'll get the best of both looks.

  2. Ask about a weather plan. It's an outdoor venue, so talk with the venue coordinator early about what happens if rain rolls in.

  3. Leave time to explore. Block out 20 to 30 minutes for a garden walk with your photographer and videographer. Some of the best footage comes from these quiet moments.

  4. Take advantage of the flexibility. Since you can bring in your own vendors, choose a team that already works together smoothly so your day feels relaxed.
